Who’s choice is it anyway….

As we continue our Summer Movie event, Who’s Your Hero? We are watching Spider-Man. Man y of us have grew up watching and reading Spider-man comics and cartoons. He is a classic super hero.

What distinguishes Spider-Man from other super heroes is his reluctance to embrace his responsibilities and to make a choice in key situations. His reluctancy leads to some unexpected results including the death of his beloved uncle.

What does all this have to do with us?
First we can all relate to Peter Parker’s insecurities. His hesitation to share his secret or to even own up to the consequences of his actions or inactions. We sometimes fall into that trap, our insecurities and fear get the best of us. We are paralyzed, we second guess ourselves and we end up making a mess of things.
Second we can be assured that through our insecurities, or failures and shortcomings there is one thing that stays the same, that is the acceptance that God has for us. Regardless of how many times and how hard we fall, God will always be there. Despite the amount of times we waver and change our minds, God will never change His.

God’s love is unconditional and without limits. The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. His love for us will never change. Like Spider-Man we have a decision to make, either to accept Gods love or to doubt Him and hesitate that His love is not for us.

Peter understood that his decisions or indecisions had consequences. Our decisions or the lack thereof also comes with consequences. Accepting God’s love brings a new life, a new way of looking at things and the confidence that God loves you. Rejecting or ignoring God’s love produces a separation between you and God. It produces a feeling of emptiness that can never be filled.

Chose and chose widely, and remember that no hooding is still a choice.
